Have you ever thought about what brought you to this point? After the realization set in that my college education was somehow distant from Human Resources, it’s not unusual that people react with a surprised look to my reply: “Yes, Chemical Engineering. That’s what I’ve studied.” And then, “So, why? “ There is a vast group of former promising Chemical Engineers spread throughout unthinkable areas and I’m pretty sure about how some of them would reply to this question: “It’s not about what you’ve learned to do, but how you got there. The skills you’ve acquired.” And what priceless skills. The ability to endure research, planning, thinking beforehand (yes, you get to do that when planning a 300 square meters facility for your own factory-to-be), juggling different personalities (you get to work in teams, lots of times!), be captivating (you need to engage others in your quest!) and most of all, you need to have fun with what you’re doing. After meeting several different areas I got to Human Resources. And what a journey! What better than building solid technologic solutions to manage so many aspects of employment? One of my biggest challenges has been to study the compliance with labour law and employment standards in the people’s payroll worldwide. I got to hear people’s requests on how their system should work, inquire the legal authorities and strive to meet everybody’s expectations. I love solving challenges, create alternative ways to proceed. Spot patterns and issues. Find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena.
